My Hair Care "Routine" and Favorite Products!

Happy Tuesday! I've been busy all weekend planning blog content through the end of September so that I actually follow through with my goal of getting a new post up every Tuesday and Thursday, with a round-up of all of the fun weekend sales happening every Saturday! I definitely don't want to ruin any surprises, but I've got a lot of really fun posts coming up in the next couple of months, including a couple of super exciting giveaways!

When planning blog content, I tried to think about what would be most useful for you guys, because I'm tired of posting any random outfit, talking about it briefly and calling it a day. So you can expect a bit more variety over here on Olivia Shea Style from now on! Don't worry, I'll always be fashion focused, but I'm going to be mixing in a bit more lifestyle, blog advice, and travel content as well and I couldn't be more excited! That being said, if there is anything you have been wanting to see on Olivia Shea Style, let me know! I love to hear from you, and I'll make sure to take any suggestions you have and make them happen!

Okay, now that that's out of the way, today I'll be talking about the one thing that I get the most questions and comments on: My hair care routine!

Growing up, I HATED my hair. I've always had fine, stick straight hair, and would have given anything for thicker hair with some texture to it! It wasn't until college (when I lived with other people and watched my friends spend hours straightening their hair) that I finally started to love and appreciate my straight hair.

I'm going to be super honest, my hair care routine (if you can even call it that) is pretty unimpressive. However, after years of trial and error, I've finally found some products that I absolutely LOVE and use almost daily.

First off, since my hair is SO long and fine, it's pretty prone to damage and gets ridiculously tangled any time I shower. I used to use Dove Intensive Repair shampoo and conditioner RELIGIOUSLY (it drove my family crazy, I made them buy it for me every time we traveled). After years of using it, I finally stumbled upon the Wet Brush, and suddenly, I could actually get a brush through my hair no matter what shampoo I used!

Because my hair is so fine and straight, I have almost NO volume, so I started to branch out from Dove and try to find something that gave me a bit more volume. My current favorite is the Pureology Hydrate Sheer shampoo and conditioner, but if you're looking for a more affordable option, I've been loving the Herbal Essence volume shampoo, too!

After I wash my hair, I use Hask Argan Oil on the bottom half (like from the bottom of my ears down), brush it with the wet brush, and then either let it air dry, or blow dry it if I'm feeling really fancy! The blow dryer I use is this one from Revlon. I got it at Harris Teeter for like $13 my freshman year of college and it's still going strong!

Then, once my hair is dry, I'll usually curl it if I have the time. Since my hair isn't super thick, I've gotten it down to a science and can curl all of my hair in under 10 minutes. Here's a quick tutorial (I had no idea what I was doing filming/editing wise, so it's a bit rough) I posted a while back! I've tried this method on thicker hair too, and while it does take a bit longer, it's still a LOT faster than other methods I've tried! To curl my hair, I use the NuMe 25mm Wand. This is the only curling iron I've ever been able to get my hair to hold with. I actually don't use hair spray, because I've found that it weighs my hair down and makes the curls fall much faster and tangle much more.

The last product that I sometimes use in my hair is Batiste dry shampoo! I've tried pretty much every (drugstore) dry shampoo that exists, and Batiste is the only thing that's ever worked for me! I've found that it's best if you spray it at night before you go to bed, that way it has time to absorb the grease before it starts to show. If you try to use it after your hair is already greasy, it will help, but it won't work nearly as well!
