NYC Apartment Bedroom Tour

It may have taken 6 months, and I may still feel like it’s not 100% finished (but let’s be real, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like the apartment is 100% finished) but I’m finally ready to give you guys a closer look at our New York City apartment! Since it’s where I’ve been spending most of my time the last couple of days now that my desk is set up, I figured I’d start with the bedroom!

When we were apartment hunting, one of the main must haves for us was a bedroom that could fit a king sized bed. Euler likes to spread out, so downsizing to a queen was just not an option for us. Finding a king sized bedroom in New York ended up being a lot harder than we thought it would be, so we were SO excited when we found this place! The layout is a bit weird and would probably be better suited for a queen sized bed because of the weird indent on the wall behind the bed, but the fact that we are able to fit not only our bed but our night stands on either side was huge for us! As an added bonus, I even had room for my desk!

Since the shape of the wall behind the bed doesn’t really allow us to hang anything centered above the bed, I eventually want to add some fun patterned removable wallpaper to that wall to make it look less plain. I’ve really been loving playing with different patterns and textures in here. I think mixing light colored (key: must be light, calming colors and larger patterns in order to avoid looking busy) patterns has made the room feel super homey and cozy!

As with most New York City apartments, our closet space here is VERY limited, so we had to get creative with storage, basically sneaking in extra storage anywhere we could. We bought this storage bed platform from Ikea and while it was a b**** to put together, the extra space it gives us is AMAZING! I would highly recommend it if you’ve got limited storage space— just splurge on the expert assembly. Trust me, it’s worth it. I think I may have cried twice while trying to put this together, no joke. lol

One fun, unique touch that we added to our bedroom was a projector and retractable screen in lieu of a TV. Our original plan was to put the projector in the living room and try to find a place to put our TV in here, but because of where the closet is, we ended up doing it the other way around in order to save space! I wasn’t sure how it would look, having a projector mounted above our bed, but it’s high enough up that you hardly notice it, and the retractable screen is pretty much completely hidden when it’s not in use. It also makes for the BEST movie nights! I think I actually like having the projector in here even better than I would have liked having it in the living room.

I still need to add a few finishing touches like curtains to replace the $13 paper blinds from Amazon that we currently have, wallpaper behind the bed and possibly some kind of art on the wall closest to the door, but I am truly in love with our bedroom and how it all came together. The amount of natural light that we get in here is amazing, makes waking up in the morning so much easier, and I love how bright and inviting it makes the room look.

What area of the apartment do you want to see next?

XOXO,

Olivia
