John Frieda Precision Foam Hair Color Review!

So the other day I got it in my head that I was tired of my hair and wanted a change! But I didn’t want to cut my hair, because I literally regret that every single time I do it, and I didn’t want to spend a fortune at a salon, so I decided to choose a darker, all over color and do it myself! I know, I know! I feel like boxed dye is always a bit of a risk, and there are some people who would NEVER touch their hair with it. But I used to do it back in high school for highlights and never messed it up tooooo badly. While I now would never use a DIY method for highlights or to go lighter in any way because I honestly don’t trust myself not to screw it up and end up with orange hair, going darker seemed harmless enough, and worst case scenario, I could go somewhere and have someone fix it if I messed up badly enough!

I had been playing with the idea for a few days, and so yesterday when my friend asked me to go to Target with her because she didn’t feel like going alone, I decided “Screw it, I’m doing it. Tonight.”

While I know that I could probably have gotten a more salon quality dye if I had opted to go somewhere like Sally’s, I honestly just didn’t want to have to make another trip, so I decided to look at the reviews and choose one at Target! John Frieda Precision Foam Hair Color had amazing reviews online, and was on the higher end price wise compared to the other hair dye options (still only $12, but I figured that would make it a safer bet than a $7 box! lol), so I decided to give it a try!

At first, I was worried that there wouldn’t be enough dye to cover all of my hair, but I ended up having JUST enough! I have really long hair, but it’s pretty fine and thin, so if you do have super long, thick hair I would recommend buying an extra box, just in case!

The process was amazingly easy, and surprisingly, I hardly even made a mess! Since the dye is foamy, I feel like it was easier to control and keep from getting all over everything! All you had to do was make sure to completely cover/saturate all of your hair, and then wait 20 minutes! To wash it out, you just have to rinse until the water runs clear, and then use the included conditioner, which is super moisturizing! My hair has felt so soft all day!

The process was SO fast— it took under an hour from start to finish, and I am SO SO SO happy with how the color turned out! I’m sure it will fade a bit, but even if it does, it’s only $12 to touch up, so not too big of a deal!

No makeup right after washing out the dye and drying my hair! I was super worried it would wash me out a ton, but it really didn’t!

I honestly was a little nervous about doing my hair on my own, especially with engagement pictures coming up next month, but I am so glad I did, and would recommend that anyone who just wants to go darker with a simple, all over color do it themselves! That being said, if you’re wanting something a little more complicated than what I was going for, definitely head to a salon! But if you’re just looking to go a shade or two darker, why spend $70+ getting it done professionally when you can easily achieve the same results for $11 and one hour of your time at home?
